OENOFOROS (Greek for wine-bearer) is a unique
winery located in the center of the “Patras” V.Q.P.R.D. region. Built in
1990 on five different levels to take advantage of gravity, it is
equipped with, modern technological facilities and a large underground
wine cellar. OENOFOROS expresses the visions and activities of
Angelos Rouvalis, a Bordeaux graduate wine maker and Vassilis Kourtakis, a
Dijon-trained Oenologist and President of the Company. |
|
The vines grow on north facing slopes at an
altitude of 500-900 meters. They are effectively protected by the
mountain ranges of the northern Peloponnesus, guarding them from the
prevailing southern summer winds. They also benefit from their northern
exposure and the cool sea breezes off the Corinthian Gulf. Except from
its own private vineyards in the slopes of Egion, OENOFOROS cooperates
with vine growers from the same region, who cultivate under our
guidance. |
 |
|
Specifically, OENOFOROS combines the cultivation
of traditional grape varieties, such as Roditis and Lagorthi, as well as
the rather elegant and cosmopolitan international varieties Cabernet
Sauvignon, Syrah, Riesling and Chardonnay with a modern and
sophisticated winemaking process. The OENOFOROS wines offer
freshness, a tasty, modern style, and a feeling for the harmony
inherent to the classic Greek measure of perfection. OENOFOROS
is the first company
in Greece to be awarded the “Value for money” category in the well
established 2004 WINE REPORT of DORLING KINDERSLEY EDITIONS, as judged
for Greek Wines by Mr Niko Manesis.
