Dimitra wines are produced by Christos
Spiliotopoulos in his small boutique winery located in Kalamata, Greece.
Superb grapes flourish in the rocky soil
of his vineyards, nurtured by the pure waters of the spring of
St. Paul, and warmed by the Mediterranean sun. Native white
Assyrtiko grapes
grow side by side with the French Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and
Merlot varietals.
Dimitra,
goddess of agriculture, blessed the fertile
farms of "Geromilos," or ancient
mill, which have been owned by the
Spiliotopoulos family for many centuries.

From this small corner of Messinia come
the delicious Dimitra Wines, named in honor of the goddess who so many
eons ago bestowed her blessings on this little paradise.
To the left is a
picture of the ruins of the ancient mill ("Geromilos") for which the
Spiliotopoulos farms are named. The mill was water-powered by the
Spring of St. Paul and produced flour from the grain grown in the field
around it. Today, are grown Christos' grapes, and the
Spiliotopoulos family's olives and figs. The family produces
superb Kalamata olives, renown extra virgin olive oil, and Kalamata figs
that are dried in the sun before heading to market. |

Christos Spiliotopoulos created his winery in the
early 1990's. His first vintage of Dimitra red, 1984 garnered a
score of 88 points in the Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Since then, Christos
has honed his craft and produces superb red and
white wines in
limited quantities to assure that they are consistently excellent.
